The Power of Mutual Support
and the luck we make together
March 1:
Hello from a place where the snow just won’t go!
First, a giant welcome to friends who’ve joined on the recommendation of the wonderfully worthwhile new Substack,
. I’m so glad you’re here. There’s a special p.s. for you at the bottom of this message. Here’s a link to the Binders group who helped shake up the algotithm.
If you’re not familiar with Goodreads giveaways, they’re a paid promotion. I think any author can offer one and the cost can vary. I’ve heard mixed things from indie authors about whether the results were good value for money. But Simon & Schuster Canada is giving away 10 copies in a 30-day promotion that started today. Canadian friends, feel free to enter and I wish you the very best of luck!
p.s. This is one of two Substack newsletters I write. If you’re not-so-interested in the nitty gritty of launching a book but still want to track The Widow’s Guide to Dead Bastards and a receive gifts of music or art each month until July 30, please follow
I won’t be offended if you unsubscribe here, if book marketing isn’t your cup of tea.

Well, you're just a font of information! I always learn something from your posts, although you are so much further along down the literary road than I am. Too bad I am not in Canada, but I will alert my Canadian friends to the Simon Shuster giveaway.
"Binders full of women" was a comment made by Mitt Romney in response to a US presidential primary Republican debate question about pay equity in 2012. The tone-deafness of his response to gender disparities in wages is what galvanized women writers on Facebook to organize locally. I realize in Canada you might not care so much about our politics, but this was kind of "guide to bastard politicians" response in the US.
